Just being afraid of the dark can help you so, what Im about to tell you will make you think twice before going or being In a dark room. Three events that happened to me, that made me realize that Im afraid of the dark were when I saw someone evil In my room, then when I was watching a movie In my cousins house, and while I was playing hide and seek with my cousin James. One of the events that occurred to me that made me hate the dark was when I was about 1 1 ear old. I woke up in the middle of the night. As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw a strange man standing at the foot of my bed. I couldnt see his face, he just stood there and stared at me. I could tell he wasnt my dad because he was a lot taller and bigger. I didnt know who he was or what he was doing there. I was completely paralyzed with fear. I just lied there, couldnt move or scream. He stood there for what seemed like forever then I closed my eyes for like one second. : As soon as I opened my eyes, he Just disappeared in the dark then, I reached quickly for the switch to put the light on. I turned the light on but nobody was there. I heard footsteps in the hall. I didnt see where he went after that. I was too terrified to make any noise afraid that he would come back so I Just stayed in my bed and lied with my eyes opened the rest of the night. The next morning, I tried to tell my parents. They checked for any signs of a break in but there was none. All the doors and windows were still locked from the inside, and no windows were broken. Then my parents told me I must have imagined the whole thing, but I know what I saw. I developed an extreme phobia of the dark because of this. I dont sleep in the dark and always have to turn the light on before I go into a room. I couldnt stand to be In the dark during those days. One Saturday night, I had to stay over at my cousins house; we were playing video games and watching TV all night. It was so late at night, when he got tired of playing video games and went upstairs to his room to sleep. I was downstairs all by myself in the living room; It was dark and cold. I was watching a TV show, called Supernatural. It was about demons, evil things; It was scary. Then, I switched It up to a movie named Paranormal Activity It was even scarier. I was all alone In the living room, laying on the couch, and I suddenly felt Like someone was standing behind me, and I quickly turned over to check. I looked, and I saw a shadow Just that vanished Into the dark Just Like a flash, I thought my eyes was playing tricks on me. I believed I saw a shadow, so, I wipe my face and looked at the same direction and tenet was no season or anything suspicious. Tater Tanat, I went Dock to my movie, Duty I was still nervous, my palms were sweating and I was shacking. Then, I started having all this weird feelings, and I didnt know what to do. I can feel a spirit present ND me laying on the couch, I felt like someone was breathing over my neck. I couldnt move. I quickly covered myself with my blanket, and I was literally shacking with fear. I Just laid there with no movement for almost 10 to 15 minute. I took off my blanket slowly checking if anyone was there, but no one was there when I checked. Then I saw my cousin coming down the stairs to eat his food. I Just immediately got up and went straight to bed. The other event that occurred to me was when I was about 13 years old. My cousin James and l, were playing hide and seek. So, I went down to the unfinished basement to hide from James. As much as I dislike going into the dark, I thought little of it at the time. I went down approaching as carefully as I ever have. I descended down the stairs slowly into the darkness, and felt my way with only a bare minimum of light coming from the upper floor. I went down for a second, then I realize that I didnt want to stay down there. As soon as I hit the stairs, I had a faint voice like a whisper in the breeze and then suddenly, an old lamp flashed which we discarded in the basement. It suddenly lit up for no more than two seconds and fizzed out once more. Chills had gone up my spine and Goosebumps ran across both my arms. This very lamp that had lit up was discarded here, because the cable had been severed and could not be plugged into an outlet any longer. I ran upstairs as fast as I could, never letting go of the feeling that there was something attempting to grab me from behind. Now, Im twenty years old, so I am not really scared of the dark anymore. I have overcome my fear, I think now that I am older, I am not afraid to go into the dark, because I know I can protect myself. Im not as scared as I used to be. As of today, Im sleeping with my light off. So these are the stories of how I developed my fear and how the feeling started vanishing as I grew up.

Alice Walker’s The Color Purple presents the life-long struggle of Celie, a black Georgia woman, who yearns to obtain confidence and self-esteem. During the early stages of the novel, references to wagons are made, signifying the â€Å"old days,† whereas towards the end of the work automobiles surface. Though Walker never discusses any specific time or place where the story actually occurs, the change in transportation suggests about a forty-year span of Celie’s life, from the beginning of the novel until the end. Written in first person, Celie writes a series of letters to God, explaining the torture that she faces, and begging him for some form of mercy. After years of abuse, both physically and emotionally, Celie discovers herself searching for some self-respect. Fonso, Celie’s abusive father, forces her to marry Albert, also abusive by nature. Celie finds a degree of hope through the depiction of Albert’s mistress, Shug. Shug serves as a tremendous force in Celie’s attainment of confidence, as the two eventually form a strong bond. Celie’s sister, Nettie, intelligent and caring who â€Å"mean[s] everything in the world† to Celie, also faces many of the same obstacles that Celie does, but Nettie first helps Celie overcome hers. As time passes, Celie gains more and more self-respect as well as some respect from others. The central theme flowing throughout the work remains that man often defeats his problems through the nurturing of close intimate relationships. The bond between Shug and Celie allows Celie to conquer her passive behavior. Likewise, her relationship with Nettie also instills a strong sense of courage and self-esteem within Celie. Celie refuses to allow the horrible deeds of the men in her life to control her towards the latter stages of the novel. The intimate relationships that Celie shares with both the energetic Shug and the loving Nettie provides Celie with hope that she will one day come out of her passive shell. Walker captures the audience with Celie’s series of letters to God that involve the audience. This unusual style of writing forces the reader to become directly involved in Celie’s life. Though the work is told by Celie’s perspective, the audience is able to receive adequate information about other key characters instead of only being able to venture into Celie’s mind. The language used throughout the novel serves several purposes.

Dream Job Jennifer Tilton Gen 200 April 26, 2010 Jennifer Brodie Dream Job When asked to describe a dream job and why, Marie had a hard time deciphering what the term, â€Å"dream job† meant to her. After substantial thought and self realization, she realized that the dream job for her is the brand operations manager for MAC Cosmetics. The three reasons she chose this area is because of the benefits, the ability to positively impact peoples’ lives and because make-up is her passion. The obvious reason behind any job is for the money. Working as an operations manager is not an easy job and Marie found that one of the largest payoffs for carrying this title is the salary. On average, Brand Operations managers make six figures. Not only is that Marie’s personal salary goal but it is also what she has decided she needs to earn to establish a secure home for a family. The brand operation manager at MAC not only makes big bucks but also has amazing benefits. Marie found that MAC operation managers have about 7 percent of their income going into a 401k and MAC matches that percent. So over about 30 years of saving that amount of money; when Marie is 55, she will have $2,203,880 to retire with. Not many employers will match 100 percent and most employers will only match up to 6 percent of your income. With these types of benefits any operations manager within MAC would be happy and happy manager’s means happy employees. She is noticing that most of the motivation being utilized with in the current management is using the scare tactic approach. I believe these issues are able to be helped but they need to be clarified and addressed properly. Currently in America there are 46.2 million people currently listed as impoverished according to the Census Bureau. As such first we need to look at the causes for poverty for nationally.
